As part of his directory, Abdou created a list of 103 Arabic newspapers published in 1907 around the world. Obviously, this list does not take into account the dramatic increase in printing that took place after that year, but it still provides a sense of the breadth of Arabic language information circulating around the globe and made easily accessible through the technology of Arabic moveable type (first developed by LinoType) and printing press. Unfortunately, Abdou did not provide the number of subscribers for each newspaper. But it is important to remember that each newspaper or journal issue was shared with the community, thus magnifying the reach of this print technology.
